Getting Started (or a bit about me)

I am assuming that if you are reading this you are either interested in wildlife photography or one of my friends patiently humoring me. Whichever the case may be, I will start by explaining why I am writing this and what you may or may not get out of reading it. My name is Karl Tatgenhorst and for the last 12 years I have been informally photographing wildlife, I say informally because I lack training in photography. I started out in 1995-96 photographing wolves while volunteering at Wolf Park (www.wolfpark.org) in Battleground IN. I had a decent camera and a great lens and so I could get 7-8 good pictures out of 7-8 rolls of film (seriously).
I have always completely enjoyed photography as a hobby, but recently I have decided to take it to the next level. I have recently begun self study (through several books) and making myself do applied lessons focusing on wildlife in NW Indiana. What I hope to do in this blog is document the lessons I learn, as well as show the results of those lessons. The hope is that some people in similar circumstances can learn along with me, I also the writing is interesting enough to catch the eye of more experienced photographers who might critique the work or words they see here. Overall, I hope to have fun and having something to look back on if I make any headway on my journey.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and please stop by again soon, as I have plenty to share.
